Adopt-A-Highway Project

St. Matthew Luthern Youth Group Adopt-A-Highway Service Project - 2017

The Redwood-Cottonwood Rivers Control Area (RCRCA) and Area II Minnesota River Basin Projects (Area II) proudly sponsor a two-mile stretch of State Highway 19 near Vesta to raise the awareness of improving and protecting our water quality. RCRCA has been a sponsor for 21 years as part of MNDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program.  This stretch is particularly scenic as the Redwood River crosses the highway, however the litter detracts from the beauty of the landscape.  To assist in our mission of reducing nutrients and sediments from entering the Cottonwood and Redwood Rivers, it is also important to pick up litter to prevent it from polluting our rivers in addition  to the road ditches.

On May 10, members of the St. Matthew Lutheran Youth Group from Wabasso assisted in the spring clean up effort. RCRCA and Area II presented the group with a donation of $400 for their community service efforts as they fundraise for their upcoming mission trip to Mississippi in June.

Adopt-A-Family

2016 Adopt A Family 3

December 2016 - RCRCA and Area II employees joined forces with the Marshall Minnesota Extension employees to Adopt-A-Family that was working with the Women's Rural Advocacy Program. We purchased gifts that were given to families at christmas time. WRAP now provides assistance to both men and women.

WRAP is dedicated to providing services for women and their children victimized by domestic violence. We are committed to bringing women's strengths together in creating empowerment where domestic violence exists, to help protect victims from further violence, and to educate communities and systems about the reality of violence in the home. The ultimate goal is to assist communities in planning and organizing to end domestic violence. It is the mission of WRAP to work for the major societal changes necessary to eliminate both personal and societal violence against all women and their children.
